#note/new ## PKM System So why it it called a personal knowledge management system? ## Personal It's *personal* because they are *my* notes, especially since I separate them from information obtained from other sources for learning and information relevant to my interests and efforts. Also, these notes are stored as plain text Markdown files on my local system for my own private use. When I want to share selected notes, I move them to my digital garden vault, where they are shaped for sharing via Obsidian Publish. Eventually I will develop them further as pages and posts for my Ghost website and subscriber newsletter. ## Knowledge My notes represents what I learn, understand, and know. It includes my ideas, information, insights, discoveries, experiences, tips, and techniques. When I develop solutions to challenges in my PKM environment with shortcuts and integration, I want to share so others can benefit too. ## Management I have developed my folders, tags, templates, and views to organize my notes with consistency and enable my PKM workflows for thinking, linking, and sharing. Periodic practices are important to continually review and improve my PKM system and my life. ## System Although Obsidian is the foundation of my PKM system, it also includes many other applications in my environment. I focus on techniques and shortcuts that help me link and integrate functions across these applications that streamline my workflows. I do PKM all the time because it's an important aspect of my life. For example, I schedule a focus session in a time block for PKM on my calendar every morning for working on my notes.
